Sign the Petition: “No to Hate!”

Mar 3, 2026

A coalition of civil society and labor organizations has launched a nationwide “No to Hate” petition calling for broad public support. This petition calls for:

  • The Prime Minister to state opposition to hate speech
  • Legislation be enacted to prohibit discrimination
  • Japan fully uphold its obligations under international human rights treaties and ensure the rights of foreign residents are protected
  • Labor laws be applied equally to foreign workers without discrimination

Across Japan, workers of diverse nationalities labor side by side under the same economic pressures and workplace realities. Efforts to stigmatize migrant workers do not protect anyone’s interests; they fragment the solidarity that gives working people their collective strength.

For trade unionists, opposing discrimination is not an abstract moral stance but a practical necessity. Divisions along lines of nationality serve only to weaken bargaining power and shift attention away from shared struggles over wages, job security, and fair treatment. The General Union encourages members and supporters to add their names and stand firmly for equality, dignity, and an inclusive labor movement capable of defending every worker.
