Before you join, please read this. It explains what the General Union is.

The General Union is a labour union.
We exist because workers support each other and act together. Our strength — and our ability to help anyone — comes from members who stay, participate, and build the union over time.

Many people today don’t know what a union is, so we want to be clear.

A union is not a lawyer, a help centre, or a guaranteed solution to individual problems. We are a collective organisation. We negotiate, organise, and support members based on what is realistically possible in each situation.

You are welcome to join even if you have a workplace problem now. We will always look at your situation honestly and explain what we can or cannot do. But we hope you will join not only for your own issue, but also because the union depends on long-term membership to exist at all. We do expect you to remain a union member while you are working in Japan. If you would like to discuss your situation before
