Small Overpayments = Big Headache
A group of teachers were union members working at a university. Over a series of months, they were overpaid and it went unnoticed by both the university and members. When the university found their error, they naturally requested the money to be paid back. As it was money already spent, the members were unable to do so in a lump-sum, but they wanted to do the right thing. They consulted with the union about what could be done. The union negotiated on their behalf with the university to create a monthly payment plan that was reasonable which left the school and members with a satisfactory outcome.
Something to keep in mind: There are times that unexpected bills or payments may come up. Most employers and government offices will likely work to create payment plans if possible. If you find yourself in such a situation, ask what options are available.
