Rebuilding Strength at Nagoya International School

Let’s Keep Pushing Forward — Together

Nagoya International School (NIS) is a place where union organizing has already made a real difference. When we first established a union presence at the school, we won a series of concrete improvements that changed the working environment for the better:

Paid leave without prior approval — Teachers gained the right to actually use the leave they’re entitled to.

Unlimited term contracts — With union support, many teachers converted to stable, non-renewable contracts. That meant job security, and the confidence to speak up.

Legal social insurance compliance — All staff were placed on the national health and pension systems, meaning better access to things like maternity leave.

A new workplace investigations system — Committees with employee  participation now oversee allegations, reducing management’s ability to bury complaints.

These weren’t promises. These were wins — achieved through organizing, collective action, and pressure.

But over time, the branch at NIS has become less active. The victories remain, but so do many of the challenges. We want to change that.

We’re calling on teachers at Nagoya International School — whether you’re new or have been there for years — to get in touch. If you’ve got concerns, ideas for improvements, or just want to know more about your rights at work, we’re ready to listen, support, and act.

Let’s rebuild a strong NIS union branch. Let’s make sure the past improvements are not reneged upon and that future gains are made.
