Osaka, June 20 

The General Union participated in a protest action held outside the annual general meeting of shareholders of the global corporation Nitto Denko, which took place in Osaka City.

Despite international attention on the unfair dismissal of union members at its wholly-owned South Korean subsidiary, Korea Optical Hi-Tech, Nitto Denko has taken no steps to resolve the dispute. The case has become a major issue in South Korea, drawing the support of labor organizations abroad.

On the day of the annual general meeting of shareholders, Osaka Union Network, together with the General Union and other allies, called on shareholders to take responsibility and urged the company to respect workers’ rights.

The General Union stands in solidarity with the dismissed workers and will continue to support cross-border labor action in defense of union rights.
