New Labor Consultation Series Launches in Fukuoka First Session: “Are you getting the paid leave you’re legally entitled to?”

Jul 14, 2024

The General Union Fukuoka Office is kicking off a new series of labor consultations, with the first face-to-face session scheduled for Sunday, August 18. The inaugural meeting will tackle a pressing issue regarding your legal entitlement to pay to leave. *Note: This is a Japanese language event

When it comes to paid leave, does this sound familiar?

• “That day is too busy, you can’t take time off.”
• “If you take a day off, I’ll be swamped. Don’t you understand?”
• “Company policy only allows leave on days we designate.”
• “You need to apply for leave at least two months in advance.”

We want to hear about your experiences and work together to find solutions.

While our focus is on paid leave, we’re also here to help with urgent issues such as wrongful termination or unpaid wages. Don’t hesitate to reach out through our online form (genu.cc/consult) or email Kawaguchi at kawaguchi@generalunion.org. We offer in-person, phone, and Zoom consultations to suit your needs.

Each consultation will be conducted by a team of two: a General Union member and a labor consultation volunteer. We’re here to explain your rights under the Labor Standards Law, discuss potential responses to your employer, or simply listen to your concerns. Your insights into workplace realities are invaluable to us.

To spread the word, we’ll be distributing information flyers in front of stations around Fukuoka City and Hakata. We’re also leveraging social media platforms like LINE and Facebook. If you’d like to help distribute information in your area, please contact Kawaguchi.

Looking ahead, we plan to hold these consultations every two months. Our next session will focus on social insurance eligibility. With changes coming this October, you may be newly eligible for social insurance coverage. Join us to learn how these changes might affect you.

Take the first step towards a better workplace. We’re here to support you. Contact us today to learn more or to participate in our upcoming consultation.
