ECC Teachers Deserve Better: Expand Sick Leave!

Apr 14, 2025 ,

Teaching English requires dedication, compassion, and professionalism. Every day, ECC teachers put their health and energy into delivering exceptional education to their students. Yet ECC’s current policy of granting just one unpaid excused sick day per illness—with a doctor’s note—is inadequate and unrealistic.

No teacher should ever be forced to choose between their health and job security. It’s unacceptable. We demand ECC immediately expand its policy to provide up to three consecutive days of unpaid excused sick leave per illness when a doctor’s note is presented. This isn’t asking for special treatment—it’s asking for basic dignity and fairness.

Many reputable companies recognize the necessity of adequately supporting their teachers’ health and well-being. ECC should also take steps to align itself with industry standards and show genuine respect for its educators.

It’s time for ECC management to step up and show true leadership. Expand unpaid sick leave to three consecutive days per illness immediately. Teachers, students, and the reputation of ECC depend on it.
ECC teachers deserve respect, support, and fair treatment—let’s make sure they get it.
