With our growing numbers, we have more opportunities than ever to bring visibility to issues that affect LGBTQ workers. From active participation in pride events across the country, to holding workshops, meetups, or even a symposium as the Solidarity Committee does, the General Union has a lot of potential to represent queer worker issues. Labor Issues Reading Group
Japan Labor Issues is a semi-quarterly online publication that delves deep into the state of labor in Japan. Featuring articles and reports from researchers and professionals across the country, it covers a broad range of topics related to workers’ rights, employment practices, and labor conditions.
To keep our members engaged and up-to-date with the latest developments, we’re launching a monthly discussion group. Each month, we’ll read and discuss one or two selected articles from the most recent issue of Japan Labor Issues, and we’ll also be reading the General Union’s own Labor Bulletin, written by the General Union’s own Toshi Asari.

Working Women in Japan Committee
Foreign women in Japan often encounter challenges that their male counterparts may never have to consider—both professionally and personally. The idea of creating a dedicated space within the General Union for women to share and discuss these experiences has been circulating for some time. Now, it’s time to bring that idea to life.

Freelancers Committee
Are you working freelance or juggling multiple Gyomu Itaku contracts? Join us for a conversation about the unique challenges faced by freelance workers in the language industry. Let’s explore the issues together and set realistic expectations for how the General Union can support you in addressing them.

Filipino Organizing Committee
Filipino workers in Japan face challenges like job insecurity, visa issues, and discrimination. We’re reviving the union’s Filipino Organizing Committee to reconnect, support each other, and take action together. We welcome Filipino and all other members interested in bringing the union to this growing community.

Solidarity Committee
The Solidarity Committee currently meets once a month on Sunday evenings on Zoom to plan and coordinate activities in support of the broader labor movement. Its work includes organizing the annual Labor Symposium, developing actions and events to promote labor solidarity, and conducting research on current labor issues. The committee is committed to advancing worker rights and building strong alliances through education, advocacy, and strategic action.
