Harassed By A Student At Gaba?

It should be noted that, while you may only be hearing about them now, these guidelines were created in 2013 in response to the General Union’s persistance in raising the issue.

It is also important to remember that, for four years after their creation, Gaba refused to publish the guidelines at all until very recently.

Aside from the fact that the rules should have existed before 2013, instructors should have been notified about them (and provided access to them) back in 2013 as well.

However, this was not the case, and it now appears that Gaba is not informing instructors of these rules at all – they have yet to even publish the news of the guidelines on the main page.

When union members have shown the rules to other instructors, it has been made abundantly clear that instructors have never been told about the guidelines by Gaba staff.

When the General Union asked Gaba why the rules were not published on the main page, the company replied that it was an “old rule”, so it wasn’t necessary to publish them.

This appears to be circular reasoning.

In plain terms, Gaba didn’t create rules until the union complained about the problems with client harassment.

The company then the hid the rules until they were old.

Now, because several years have passed since the rules were created, the company is claiming that they don’t need to mentioned the rules because they only tell instructors about new rules – not old ones created in 2013.

As a result, this means that instructors need to tell each other – and especially new instructors – about the blocking student rules and how to use them.

Gaba would rather people didn’t know about the rules at all, and its absurd that Gaba employees have to get their company rules from a union instead of from the company they work for.

Let’s not allow Gaba to put the cat back into the bag.
