Both this April (2017) and last (2016) saw the premiums for unemployment insurance reduced for both the employee and employer portions. For a salary of 250,000 yen, the saving is about 500 yen per month.

However, most people only pay around 1500 yen or so, so you probably didn’t even notice!

Suffice to say, this is a good opportunity to remind you of this (important!) insurance and some of the associated benefits.
