This success led to an organizing drive.
Our most recent set of negotiations has led an important victory. In the past Shinobu had order workers to change into uniforms, wash their hands, and perform other tasks to ensure food safety. These are quite lengthy, involved tasks and completely necessary for the workers to perform their jobs.
The Labor Standards office recently confirmed the what the union thought all along – preparation must be done within paid working time. In negotiations, Shinobu has confirmed that members should do such preparation after their shift begins. Our Filipino members have begun spreading the news to their coworkers and have written this leaflet. They hope to have it translated into Portuguese and Chinese so so they can spread the news more easily.
