ACC Teacher Wins Severance Pay

Jul 27, 2008

It’s obviously illegal to fire a worker without a proper reason, but the teacher decided that this wasn’t the kind of company she wanted to continue working at and chose not to contest the firing. However, under the law she was entitled to 30 days’ pay as dismissal allowance because of the lack of notice.

We instructed the company that it had an obligation to pay the dismissal allowance, and soon after the teacher received the money she was owed.

Union members are better prepared to cope with emergencies like a sudden unfair firing… Shouldn’t you join the Union before the worst happens?
