AEON Nagoya does about face over housing

Jun 26, 2008

AEON’s written policy on this is vague. The Foreign Teachers’ Policy Manual states that “the employee may be required to compensate the employer for the losses incurred as a result of the employee’s decision to change apartments”.

Despite the vagueness in written policy many teachers are intimidated into continuing to pay rent even though they have vacated AEON housing. This is wrong! It is NOT your responsibility to continue paying rent until AEON finds a new tenant. To force you to pay this is illegal.

After advice from the union, one teacher recently approached AEON and was let out of the housing contract. Was this goodwill? No. AEON knew that the union was onto the issue and is afraid of coming under scrutiny for breaking housing laws.

Contact the union for information on this and other areas where AEON denies your rights guaranteed under labor standards law.
