AEON Teachers: Working Too Much?

6月 24, 2008

Myth 1

Aeon would have you believe the reason you are feeling overworked is because you are either lazy or have never done an honest day’s work in your life. They will tell you that Japanese people generally work harder and never complain about it. That just isn’t true. The reason you feel overworked is because you are – new teachers especially. With student counseling, model lessons, writing cards to students, and who knows what else, there just isn’t enough time in the day to get your lesson planning finished inside your contract working hours.

How many hours overtime do you work each day?

Most people don’t mind doing a little bit extra work here and there. They realize it is a game of give and take. BUT AEON just takes. They fill up your schedule so much you are putting in hours of unpaid overtime each day. Why are some schools scheduling student counseling outside your contract hours?

Myth 2

Some Aeon managers will say you are not entitled to paid overtime. Japanese labour law clearly states that all overtime must be paid for. These laws apply to AEON and to yourself. Have you noticed some managers clock you out way before you finish for the day? There are even instances of them falsifying records by altering your time card. This is so AEON can evade their legal responsibility to pay you overtime.
