Upon joining G.communication, the employees were told they would receive the same compensation they had at Nova but were instead offered the stark choice of accepting a demotion or pay cut, or be dismissed if they didn’t like it. Nova’s run-away expansion came to a halt last October when it filed for protection under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law. G.education, the education arm of Nagoya-based izakaya chain operator G.communication, took over Nova’s business in November, leaving Nova to file for bankruptcy. With G.education running the show, as of February, it boasted 500 Japanese staff and 1,431 instructors from Nova. However, the company stirred up a hornet’s nest when it refused to renew the contracts of some instructors and fired others. Now it looks as if trouble has spread to head office. According to a source, at least 15 former Nova staff working at head office will be out of a job at of the end of April at the encouragement of G.education. Of the group, all 10 members of the Tokyo Foreign Personnel section–1 Japanese and 9 foreigners– who arrange work visas for instructors and adjust schedules for Nova, will be given the boot. G.communication says that in addition to this, approximately 20 employees involved in management at Nova were demoted while 5 others were promoted. The former Nova employees are thought to be part of this group. According to a source and internal documents obtained by the Yukan Fuji, an email in the name of Masaki Inayoshi, the head of G.communication, was sent to all employees at G.education in the middle of March. The email paints a bleak picture stating that Nova’s re-opening wasn’t progressing as planned and that the entire G.communication group may lose the ability to meet payroll in the near future, possibly as early as March. The email also explained that all employees would be demoted and receive sharp pay cuts, and that if they didn’t agree to them, they would be given one month’s pay and then dismissed. There also appears to be a campaign in place to put the screws to head office staff. One person claims to have been given 10 minutes to choose between being demoted 2 ranks or being fired! Internal documents show that G.education, bled red ink after taking over Nova. It lost nearly \400 million in November, more than \300 million in December, \500 million in January, and approximately \479 million in February. The email also warned that the company cannot survive if this continues. A public relations spokesperson for G.communication says that the losses are a fact but the company has a plan to return to the black in May. If you listen carefully, you can hear the voices of some of the former Nova employees subjected to G.communication’s purge admitting that the old Nova (in a twisted way) looks heavenly.　(英文は「ＬＥＴ’Ｓ　ＪＡＰＡＮ」より) NOVA元社員が「降格・減給か解雇か」迫られ、15人が退職 (夕刊フジ報道) 経営破綻した英会話学校「ＮＯＶＡ」の事業譲渡先企業で、ＮＯＶＡ出身社員の退職や降格が相次いでいることが２日、分かった。会社側はＮＯＶＡ出身者を受け入れるにあたり、以前と同じような待遇を掲げていたが、ここにきて降格や減給を通告、同意しなければ解雇という二者択一を迫っているという。 ＮＯＶＡは昨年１０月、野放図な拡大路線がたたって会社更生法の適用を申請。同１１月、居酒屋チェーンなどを展開するジー・コミュニケーション（名古屋市）の子会社で教育事業を行うジー・エデュケーションに事業を譲渡し、ＮＯＶＡは破産手続きに移行した。 ジー・エデュケーションは事業譲渡を受けて、２月時点でＮＯＶＡから日本人５００人、外国人１４３１人を採用した。が、一部の外国人講師が契約更新を拒否されたり、解雇されたりしたとして騒動に発展。今度は本部系社員にも及んできた格好だ。 関係者によると、３月末時点で、ＮＯＶＡ出身の本部系社員の少なくとも１５人が、会社側の勧奨に応じる形で４月末に退職する。このうち「外国人講師のビザ発給やスケジュール調整を行うＮＯＶＡの根幹」（ＮＯＶＡ元社員）といわれる「東京外事課」では、日本人１人と日本定住外国人９人の計１０人のスタッフ全員が退職となる。 親会社のジー・コミュニケーションによると、ジー・エデュケーションではこのほか、ＮＯＶＡ部門の管理職約２０人が降格、５人が昇格した。このなかにＮＯＶＡ出身者も含まれているとみられる。 関係者の証言や夕刊フジが入手した内部資料によると、３月中旬、グループ総帥の稲吉正樹ジー・コミュニケーション会長名で、ジー・エデュケーション社員にメールが送信された。内容は「ＮＯＶＡの再生が予定通り進んでおらず、早ければグループ全体として３月の給与の支払いができない」とし、「原則全社員の降格と大幅な減給を実施、それに同意できない場合は１カ月間の給与を保証したうえで解雇する」という厳しいもの。本部系社員を徹底的に圧縮する方針も打ち出されたという。 「『２階級降格を受け入れるか解雇か、１０分以内に決めろ』と上司に迫られた社員もいたようだ」（関係者）というから、すごい。 内部資料によると、ジー・エデュケーションは事業継承後の昨年１１月に４億円弱、１２月に３億円強の経常赤字に転落。今年３月中旬の社員あてメールでは「２月の経常赤字は約４億７９００万円で１月に続き約５億円の赤字」「現状のままでは会社として存続できない」と危機感をあらわにしている。 同社秘書広報室は「赤字は事実だが、５月には単月黒字化する計画だ」としている。 新天地で猛烈な逆風にさらされているＮＯＶＡ出身社員の一部には、「（理不尽に思えた）ＮＯＶＡが天国に見える」との声も聞かれるという。
