各大学は通年、秋以降に次年度の計画をたて、非常勤講師らに契約継続の意志確認を行なう。ゼネラルユニオンは主な大学と、「次年度契約に変更の可能性がある場合は、前年度前期中に、労使協議を行なう」という事前協議制を締結している。こうして、講師の雇用安定と、授業の円滑化をはかっているのだが、一部の大学では、それどころか、「年度初頭における学生の申込数が少なく、急な閉講となった場合、〇か月分の補償をする」という慣行が見受けられる。契約書にも記載されている場合もあり、大学は「本人も了解していた」と主張する。
